Introducing the Pingelly Youth Network

Published on Wednesday, 2 December 2020 at 1:00:00 PM

Previous consultation undertaken by the Shire indicated the community ranked ‘youth engagement’ as the most critical issue facing Pingelly into the next decade. In response the Shire is preparing the Youth Strategy 2021-25 to formally acknowledge its commitment to supporting young people in Pingelly.

Today the Pingelly Youth Network identified focus areas that will become the scope of an interactive engagement series with young people during 2021 to inform the Youth Strategy. The emerging issues and needs of young people in Pingelly encompass the broader themes of health and wellness, safety, participation and future aspirations.

The definition of 'Pingelly youth' was also explored and found the immediate need to expand the scope of the Youth Strategy to include the early years (0-10 years) and young people (10 - 25 years) cohorts. Together the Pingelly Youth Network also co-designed initial questions and identified possible methods to engage the early years, young people and families in the consultation process. The Pingelly Youth Network will support and meet after the consultation to review the draft Strategy and provide further feedback. Following the endorsement of the Strategy by Council, the Pingelly Youth Network will continue to meet a minimum of three times a year to ensure coordination of early years and youth activities and services in Pingelly, while remaining responsive to emerging issues and needs impacting young people.

The Pingelly Youth Network consists of representatives from:

  • Moorditj Youth Foundation Aboriginal Corporation
  • Pingelly Early Years Network
  • Pingelly Primary School
  • Pingelly Recreation & Cultural Centre
  • Shire of Pingelly
  • WA Police

Immediately the scope of the Youth Strategy will be expanded to encompass the early years (0-10 years), as well as young people (10 - 25 years).
