Planning a takeaway treat tonight? Takeaway food has been a popular choice throughout the pandemic as restaurants provide an alternative to dine-in options.

So, it’s a good time to remember how to dispose of takeaway packaging responsibly with these 5 quick reminders:

  1. Plastic containers – reuse them as many times as you can, then throw them in the plastic recycling bin. Make sure they’re clean first!
  2. Cardboard – pizza boxes can be recycled but only if they’re clean. If they're dirty, tear off the top and just recycle it.
  3. Soft plastics – plastic wrapping can be taken back to your local supermarket for recycling.
  4. Styrofoam – avoid this as best you can as it cannot be recycled so must go in the waste bin.
  5. Plastic cutlery – these are usually too small for recycling so need to go to the waste bin. Better yet, ask for no cutlery and use what you have at home or buy some reusable ones to take out with you.
