Pingelly Live and Local Music Project | March 2021 update

Published on Thursday, 11 March 2021 at 4:31:23 PM

The Pingelly Live and Local Music Project Working Group met again recently to evaluate the recent community events with live music. Together the group brainstormed what worked well at each event, as well as what could be done better to improve the event experience for the community and organisers. The events reviewed include:

  • Pingelly Late Night Shopping by the Shire of Pingelly and Pingelly Tourism Group
  • Party on the Oval by Shire of Pingelly
  • Bali Comes to Pingelly by Pingelly Exchange Tavern
  • Australia Day by Shire of Pingelly
  • Beer and Wine Festival by Pingelly Hotel

The working group has also commenced planning the next three months of community events featuring live music including:

  • WAFL Game (South Fremantle vs Peel Thunder) on 17 April 2021
  • Pingelly Country Collective on 24 April 2021
  • Pingelly Community markets on 8 May 2021

Preliminary  planning of a live music festival event during the next quarter has also commenced. The working group looks forward to planning this further at the April meeting and sharing the progress with the community.

Lucy Joseph, from Live and Local Music Office, joined the meeting virtually from Sydney to provided members with an update and provided news the project end date has been extended from October 2021 to October 2022 in case of further snap lockdowns from COVID-19. This extended timeframe will allow the community more time to benefit from the Live and Local Music Project which is a WA-first initiative.

The next steps include publishing a list of local and Wheatbelt-based musicians for the community to access from the Shire's website, as well as continue building expressions of interest from musicians based in surrounding communities. The group have also began considering the training and professional development needs of local and regional musicians as part of the 'Pingelly Live Music School' phase to be delivered later this year.
