Shire thanks those involved in the recent opening and operation of the Evacuation Centre.

The Shire of Pingelly received a request on Sunday evening to open the local Evacuation Centre at the PRACC to provide accommodation for people impacted by both the Wickepin and Corrigin bushfires. This was an challenge due to the power outages which impacted the region and further afield. However, the Shire and PRACC opened the facility and made the necessary arrangements to accommodate several displaced families. The Shire wishes to thank the following:

  • Bob Lee for providing the generator at short notice
  • The PRACC Manager, Board and Volunteers
  • Sean Higgins from Wheatbelt Electrics for connecting the generator after hours
  • The Department of Communities for their expertise
  • Anthony Oliveri at IGA for supplying food
  • SES for supplying lighting
  • The several volunteers for showing up and doing whatever was needed.
  • To those who dropped off bedding and supplies.

The assistance provided was essential and is greatly appreciated.

The Evacuation Centre was closed Monday afternoon as the Incident Controllers from both fires have notified us that the fire conditions have eased and the facility is no longer required.

Our thoughts and thanks continue to be with the fire fighters and volunteers who are currently working tirelessly around the clock to ensure the fires around Western Australia are under control.
