Trail proposed between Beverley and Narrogin

The Wheatbelt may get a new long distance cycle and walk trail. Five local governments (Beverley, Brookton, Pingelly, Cuballing and Narrogin) have commissioned consultants to investigate and report on the feasibility of a cycling and walking route between Beverley and Narrogin.

Their task is to look at different alignment options, find the best route for the proposed 100+km trail and provide construction details and cost estimates to enable the local governments to apply for funds to develop it if proven feasible. The study will assess options for use of the railway maintenance track, sections of which are within road reserves. Quiet backroads and unconstructed road reserves will also come under serious consideration. New sections of trail may have to be constructed to join up stretches of roads and tracks that are already in place.

If developed this trail could link to existing and proposed future trails to the north and south potentially creating a route several hundred kilometres long.

Residents of the towns of the region, as well as other interested people, will have ample opportunity to participate in the project. In August there will be community consultation events in the 5 major towns through which the trail would pass. A questionnaire survey will be available on-line and in hard copy and QR code links will be provided in local newspapers and newsletters directing people to the survey. The project and the opportunities for the community to get involved will be widely advertised.

It is expected that the study report will be presented to the Councils later this year.
