The Shire’s current local laws were largely made in 2003 and no longer reflect changes to State legislation. The proposed local laws replace them with clearer provisions, reduced permit requirements where a permit is not necessary, and penalties consistent with the limits set by State legislation.
Proposed local laws
- Health Local Law 2027 sets local standards for sanitation, housing, waste, nuisances, animal keeping, pest control and lodging houses. It replaces the Health Local Laws 2003.
- Dogs Local Law 2027 provides for the keeping and confinement of dogs, limits on the number of dogs per property, kennel licensing and impounding. It replaces the 2003 Dogs Local Law.
- Public Places Local Law 2027 regulates behaviour in public places and on Shire property, verges, crossovers, animals on thoroughfares and activities requiring a permit, such as stalls, events, signs and outdoor dining. It replaces two 2003 local laws.
- Pest Plants Local Law 2027 prescribes seven pest plants and enables the Shire to require owners and occupiers to control them by notice. It replaces the Pest Plant Local Laws 2003.
- Cemeteries Local Law 2027 regulates burials, funerals, ashes, memorials, memorial trees and conduct at the Pingelly Cemetery and the Moorumbine Public Cemetery. It replaces the 2003 cemeteries local law.
- Cats Local Law 2027 deals with cat nuisance, cats in prohibited places, cat traps, and a limit of two cats per property unless a permit is granted. It replaces the Cats Local Law 2024.
